The Krypton Metrology System K600 Camera
K600 Camera
The basis of the Krypton metrology solution is the camera. The camera is used to detect infrared LED's. One LED used in the camera field of view will give very accurate XYZ coordinate data. When three LED's are attached to an object data can be acquired in 6D with XYZ values as well as roll/pitch/yaw. The system is capable of tracking up to 80 dynamic reference frames simultaneously.

K600 camera 1000 Hz 17 m3
The K600 sensor is a pre-calibrated, certified camera measurement system. This means that in the field calibration of the camera system is not necessary. The camera is composed of a ridged structure with three linear CCD cameras. These cameras have the advantage of high resolution (2000 pixels). A pixel interpolation algorithm for sub pixel resolution enables the system to obtain a resolution of 1 part in 200,000. Dynamic measurements can be taken up to 1000Hz for 3 LED's.

With this system, Infrared-LED 3D positions are measured. With 3 or more of these LED's (markers), a 6 DOF measurement can be obtained. Measurements can be taken up to 6000mm away from the camera unit.

This solid-state system is extremely reliable, and comes with a calibration certificate traceable to ISO 10360 II and ANSI / ASME B89.1.12.M standards.
K600 camera measuring volume
The following drawing shows the measuring volume of K600:
K600 measuring volume
The measurement volume for K600 is 17m3.

The drawing represents the volume in which the camera can measure objects. Due to its specific construction with line-scan CCD sensors and cylindrical lenses, 3 different zones can be described. Each zone has its well-defined volume and accuracy specifications.

The accuracy of the K600© - CMM system depends on the measured length and the distance between the object and the camera. The measurement range is divided into 3 accuracy volumes as indicated in the previous graphs.

It is good practice to carefully choose the position of the camera relative to the object. This enables the user always to measure with the highest accuracy.

The accuracy of the K600®- 6D system is:
Distance to the camera Zone I :
1,6 to 3.5 m
Zone II :
3.5 to 5 m
Zone III :
5 to 6 m
3D measurement 0,090 + 0,010.L 0,090 + 0,025.L 0,190 + 0,025.L
(in mm for L = measured object length in m)
Example: for a measurement over 1 meter distance in zone I, the accuracy can be calculated as follows: 0.090 + 0.010 x 1 = 0.10 mm

The indicated measurement uncertainty is expressed for a confidence level of 95%, according to the ISO 10360 II, VDI 2617 and ANSI / ASME B89.1.12M standards for acceptance of CMM's.
The 6D Space Probe 5.x
The Space Probe 5.x is used to make position measurements with the K400 and K600 systems. Using 9 LED's, the camera system can track the position of the calibrated probe tip.

Four inside trigger buttons allow an operator to measure points in normal mode. A 5th button allows starting different scanning modes (time, distance, continuous).

The probe features automatic tip detection. If a new probe tip is inserted, it will be selected automatically from a pre-calibrated tip database. The calibration of a new probe tip is done in less then one minute by use of the probe calibration driver.

A large variety of extensions, ball and point probes can be used with this Space Probe.

Multiplexer and LED's
Each of the LED's is connected to a strober unit. The LED's emit IR light to the 3 cameras, after which the coordinates of the LED's are calculated by triangulation.

Different types of coated markers are available. Normally a LED has a wire and LEMO connector to connect it to the strober unit.

The strober unit is the connection point between each LED and the controller unit. All signals for the LED's run through the strober unit. 3 LED's can be connected to a strober. Multiple strober units can be used at the same time, up to a maximum of 256 LED's.

Characteristics:
  • strober size: 57mm x 77mm x 24mm
  • strober weight: 94g
  • output channels: 3
  • led sizes: 8 or 16mm diameter
  • led weight: approx. 6g
